Florence is the capital of Tuscany, located on the banks of the river Arno, in the central-northern part of the Italian peninsula. It is easily accessible from every part of Italy and abroad, by plane, car and train. Florence is located on the main national railway lines; the international airport “Amerigo Vespucci” is only 5 km from the city centre; the A1 tollway (autostrada) connects Florence to Bologna and Milan, to the north, and to Rome and Naples, to the south.

Moving in Florence
Florence is a walkable city, but public means of transports are also available:
By Bus and Tramvia
The easiest way of travelling within Florence is by bus and tramvia (T1 and T2). Bus and tramvia tickets can be bought from bars, tobacconists, newsagents showing the sign “biglietti ATAF” (ATAF tickets), from automatic distributing machines, on the bus and via SMS using an Italian SIM card. The bus company providing the service is called ATAF. Their app for smartphone is extremely useful to find bus stops, waiting times, purchase tickets and plan journeys.
To call a taxi dial 055-4242 / 055-4390. Taxis are also parked outside railway stations and in the main city squares.
There are several rental car companies in Florence, including a number of pay-per-use franchises such as Enjoy, Car2Go and Share’nGo. Scooters and bicycles can also be easily rented.
